Warning signs with IUDs
You should go see your doctor if there are any changes with your IUD. It will lose effectiveness if it slips out of place.
Call your doctor if the string from your IUD gets longer or shorter, or if you cannot feel or find the string from your IUD at all.
If you feel the IUD pressing hard against your cervix, you need to call your doctor.
It is important to call your doctor if you think that you might be pregnant. You should call if you miss a period or if you have a much lighter period than usual.
Although IUDs often cause heavier periods, if your periods are much heavier or much longer than usual, tell your doctor about it.
If you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, or bleeding and pain during sex, you need to call your doctor. Mention if you have any abnormal discharge. You also need to tell her if you have chills or a fever, or muscle-aches.
Call your doctor if you have abdominal pain, cramping, or tenderness. Flu-like symptoms, such as fatigue and aches, should also be reported.
It is better to know what is wrong with you to prevent any problems with your IUD. If you are unsure, call your doctor or clinician.
Be sure to check your IUD after ever period to make sure that it is in place.
