Birth Control
There are many different types of birth control. The two most common methods of birth control are hormonal birth control and barrier-based birth control methods.
Hormonal birth control can occur in many different ways. Hormonal birth control methods involve a woman taking a hormone supplement. This hormone supplement that alters her hormones so that she cannot get pregnant. This can be done using a pill (the most common method), a patch, a shot, or an implant.
Barrier-based birth control works to prevent semen from making contact with the egg (and as such, prevent fertilization and pregnancy). These methods include the condom, female condom, and prescription barriers, such as the diaphragm. Condoms, unlike many other forms of birth control, can prevent STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
There are other ways to prevent pregnancy, including the use of spermicide or an Intra-uterine device IUD.
