Vaginal Rings and your Vagina

Because NuvaRing is not a barrier method, insertion is not often a problem.  It does not have to be inserted perfectly to work.  It simply has to be in your vagina comfortably.

To insert a vaginal ring, squeeze the ring into an oval and insert it into your vagina with your fingers.  Although this might be tricky at first, it is much easier after the first or second time.  Push the ring back in your vagina to a point where it is comfortable.  Many women cannot feel the vaginal ring at all when they wear it.

It is not wise to insert and reinsert the ring frequently because this irritation can lead to infection.  You don’t need to remove the ring for sex.

You don’t have to worry about the vaginal ring becoming “lost” in your body.  Remember, your vagina is a closed system, and you will be able to get the ring out.

To remove the ring, simply reach your finger into your vagina and hook the ring on your finger.  Pull it out.  It is suggested that you wrap the ring in the foil wrapper that it came in to prevent the hormones from entering the environment.

The ring is about two inches in diameter.  It is small and transparent, and is often even unnoticeable during sex.
