Lunelle
Lunelle was a monthly injection that contained both estrogen and progestin. It was offered by Pharmacia Corporation, which has since been taken over by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, the same company that offers Depo-Provera.
Lunelle has been discontinued. Representatives from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals explain that this was possibly because it was not a successful drug and that women were not choosing it.
It makes sense that women might not choose a monthly injection, when they have the option of a four-times a year injection.
Lunelle was recalled once in 2002 because there was not enough hormone in the pre-packaged syringes. There was a risk of unwanted pregnancy. This was only the case for the syringes.
